HARTZ Search invites you to explore an exciting opportunity with our client, Roper St. Francis Health (RSFH), which is seeking an Associate Vice President & Chief Administrative Officer for Roper Hospital. The Associate Vice President (AVP) Integrated Practice Network (IPN) (service line) & Hospital Chief Administrative Officer (CAO) is responsible for leadership of a designated system service line IPN in addition to a hospital. The CAO role directs and manages the daily operations, patient/customer experience, teammate engagement, profitability, and clinical outcomes within Roper Hospital in a matrix management relationship with the Roper Hospital Chief Nursing Officer and Roper Hospital Chief Medical Officer to achieve outcomes aligned to strategy. The AVP for the assigned IPN facilitates the planning, organization, implementation, and control of the resources needed for optimal performance of the assigned operational areas in coordination with the various physicians, clinicians, and other support teammates. The AVP for the assigned IPN works with the System Leadership to set operational performance goals and objectives and develops and executes plans to ensure that said goals and objectives are achieved.   Our client is seeking a candidate that excels at cultivating talent, leading through influence in a matrixed environment, and has exceptional physician relationships.  A candidate with strong service line expertise is sought to drive growth, quality, culture and patient experience.

Position Highlights:

  • Chief Administrative Officer/ AVP reports to the Vice President, Acute Care Services at Roper St. Francis Health
    • 4 Direct Reports
  • Chief Administrative Officer function of the role is for Roper Hospital – the largest hospital in the Roper St. Francis Health system – licensed for 258 bed and gross revenue over $1B
  • AVP function is for the assigned Integrated Practice Network (service line) for the health system - TBD


  • Provides leadership and consultations in all aspects of care coordination, as well as develops, implements, directs, and evaluates an operational plan for care coordination that aligns with the organizational strategic plan to ensure that processes meet or exceed regulatory and industry standards.
  • Oversees the business operations, strategy development, and growth initiatives for the designated service line and serves in partnership with the Nursing/Physician leads to represent the Service Line (IPN).
  • In partnership with physicians and other key stakeholders, leads the RSFH strategic planning process related to the designated service line (IPN) and hospital entity. Develops annual service line and hospital business plan with measurable and time-specific goals and objectives that are in concert with the corporate mission and goals.
  • Anticipate and plan for regulatory changes within IPN & hospital; maintain appropriate quality assurance documentation and ensure compliance with all applicable regulatory requirements.
  • Communicates with hospital leaders frequently about operational processes with monitoring of departmental performance against clinical (and non-clinical) benchmarks; Facilitates good teammate relations in all operational areas through timely and specific performance feedback.
  • Assist managers to maintain and improve clinical outcomes within operating areas by assessing board goals and strategies to optimize outcomes with an emphasis on publicly reported outcomes and strive for all appropriate accreditations

Education and Experience:

  • Master’s degree in Business Administration, Public Health, Nursing, or another closely related clinical field; MHA, MBA, MSW, or MSN preferred.
  • Five (5) years of comprehensive hospital operations experience (preferably clinical and non-clinical operations experience) in a medium or large healthcare system with at least two (2) years in a senior hospital operations role
  • Demonstrates a strong track record of building and leading teams while balancing vision with a hands-on approach and be comfortable driving results independently, as well as with and through others
  • Ability to navigate within ambiguity, a service orientation, and a high level of humility are all requirements for successful assimilation into our highly collaborative culture.
