CHIEF FINANCIAL OFFICER Roper St. Francis Healthcare Charleston, South Carolina HARTZ Search invites you to explore an exciting opportunity with our client, Roper St. Francis Health (RSFH), a Joint Venture between Bon Secours Mercy Health and The Medical Society of South Carolina for the Chief Financial Officer.  The CFO is an innovative, strategic, and collaborative leader who ensures RSFH maintains a strong balance sheet, financial performance, and internal controls to enable the system to be the market leader in providing high-quality care for the people of Charleston and surrounding areas. RSFH is a 4-hospital integrated health system with over 700 licensed beds, over $1.5B in net revenue, and 6,700 employees and is the Lowcountry’s second-largest private employer.  The Chief Financial Officer (CFO) is a key member of the senior leadership team, reporting directly to the President & Chief Executive Officer with a dotted-line reporting to the corporate centralized finance team CFO, and provides the strategic and tactical leadership and direction on the Financial Affairs of Roper St. Francis Healthcare (RSFH). This individual is the key steward of the financial and physical assets. The CFO is a strategic partner with the Chief Operating Officer/Chief Physician Officer dyad, Senior Leaders, the Executive Council, and Integrated Practice Networks in setting the vision and direction.  The CFO will have 7 Direct Reports. The CFO's responsibilities include developing and executing financial strategies, initiatives, systems, and processes that optimize current and future performance. The CFO will utilize a system-minded approach that ensures financial policies and procedures are consistently and accurately reflected in the philosophy, approach, and everyday aspects of financial operations across the market. They will function in an active leadership role as a member of the executive team, facilitating communication and support to the Board and appropriate committees. This position also provides leadership, guidance, and direction to capital planning, financial planning, financial reporting, revenue cycle, accounting, reimbursement, and operating entity support functions through well-aligned coordination with the respective Bon Secours Mercy Health shared service leaders. Minimum Qualifications:
  • Education: Bachelor's degree in business, accounting or finance-related field; MBA or Master’s in Accounting, Finance or Health Administration is preferred
  • Licensure/Certification: CPA license preferred. HFMA affiliation and certification are preferred
  • A minimum of eight (8) years of progressive financial leadership experience with significant time in a healthcare setting, multi-hospital, integrated healthcare system experience required.

  • Assume a lead role in analyzing and exploring means of reducing operating costs and increasing revenues based on knowledge of market trends, financial reports, and operating procedures.
  • Direct the preparation of internal financial reports, ensuring that the reports reliably reflect the financial position of the market.
  • Direct the timely submission of all financial data-associated reports required by the government and other regulated agencies.
  • Identify and report undesirable trends and potential business opportunities and make recommendations for action.
  • Assist in developing long and short-range operations plans, including service demand analyses, resource availability analyses, productivity, and cost-benefit analyses of proposed capital and staff expansions.
  • Develop long and short-range operational and capital budgets supported by the market's long and short-range plans and objectives.
  • Direct the preparation of statistical reports, budgets, and financial reports.
  • Facilitate the general accounting, revenue cycle, financial, and statistical reporting functions of the market in accordance with established policies and accounting procedures.
  • Provide informal direction in a matrix management environment. Monitoring performance to ensure fiscal responsibilities are fulfilled.
  • Forecast the impact of business decisions and expected outcomes on all financial results.
  • Monitor financial and economic information to identify trends and indicators that may impact business operations, planning, investments, etc.
  • Communicate financial, and operational performance with all stakeholders, including senior administration, the local board of directors, appropriate facility staff members, and system finance leaders.
  • Review revenue cycle issues and trends for maximizing net reimbursement for the Facility.
  • Review contracts, purchase agreements, and other financial arrangements to ensure compatibility with business goals and expectations about profitability and stewardship.
  • Actively participates in Bon Secours Mercy Health projects as assigned.
  • Actively participate on the local Joint Venture Board of Directors and other local community boards as requested.
  • Facilitates the growth and development of the finance team, positioning our internal talent for upward career mobility.
