After an extensive national search, Dr. Kendall Von Crowns was named the new Chief Medical Examiner of Tarrant County.
In this role, he is responsible for all administrative functions of the Tarrant County Medical Examiner District and Forensic Laboratories (TCMED & FL) and provides strategic and tactical direction to all employees of the TCMED & FL in the effective development and attainment of the Medical Examiner’ s goals.

Dr. Kendall Von Crowns joins Tarrant County from Travis County Medical Examiner’s Office in Austin, Texas. At Travis County Medical Examiner’s Office, Dr. Von Crowns was responsible for the overall operations of the Medical Examiners office, as well as supervision of the Deputy Medical Examiners. Prior to his role as Deputy Chief Medical Examiner of Travis County, Dr. Crowns held the role as Deputy Medical Examiner of the Medical Examiner in Chicago, IL, where he performed 2,070 autopsies, and 2,061 external examination inspections.
Dr. Crowns has worked as a forensic pathologist for over 20 years. He earned his Bachelors in Science, in Chemistry from Wichita State University, and his degree in Medicine from the University of Kansas School of Medicine. He is board-certified in Anatomic and Forensic pathology.
The Tarrant County Medical Examiner’s office serves a district including Tarrant, Denton, Parker, and Johnson counties with a total population over 2.8M. The District is accredited by the National Association of Medical Examiners (NAME) and staffed by Seven (7) full-time Board-Certified Pathologists.
