Congratulations to Barry Fleming and South Georgia Medical Center!
After an extensive national search, South Georgia Medical Center selected Barry Fleming as the Director of Emergency Services.
Barry will report directly to Chief Nursing Officer Cherise Giddens and oversee the SGMC Emergency Department. His responsibilities include managing assigned areas/departments, facilitating communication and collaboration within and between departments, ensuring high-quality patient care, meeting regulatory and accreditation standards, operating within budget, representing the hospital at local, state, and regional levels, maintaining an environment aligned with South Georgia Medical Center’s mission, vision, values, code of conduct, goals, policies, and standards, and serving as relief Administrative Coordinator.

Barry joins South Georgia Medical Center after serving as the Senior Director of Emergency Services, ICU, and Stepdown at North Mississippi Medical Center. He has held leadership roles at Ochsner Health, Cleveland Clinic, Johns Hopkins, and Baylor Scott & White. Barry is known for pioneering innovative patient care solutions, enhancing operational performance, and leading teams to exceptional results. He is passionate about setting new healthcare standards and promoting a culture of continuous improvement.
Barry earned his Bachelor of Science in Nursing at the University of South Carolina and his Master of Science in Nursing at Clemson University.
