Hartz Search is excited to announce the placement of Jennifer Koestler M.D., F.A.A.P, as the new Associate Dean of Medical Student Education of Geisinger Commonwealth School of Medicine.
After an extensive national search, GCSOM selected Dr. Jennifer Koestler as Associate Dean of Medical Student Education, to cultivate talent and drive innovation and increased scholarly activity. Dr. Koestler will build on the momentum of the recent curriculum renewal and further align the medical school experience with the needs and strengths of the Geisinger Health System to graduate students who will contribute to improved health in the communities they serve.
Dr. Jennifer Koestler will report directly to Dr. William Jeffries, Provost & Vice Dean for Medical Education of GCSOM

Dr. Jennifer Koestler joins GCSOM from New York Medical College where she has risen through various curriculum development leadership roles over the past 15 years. Most recently, Dr. Koestler held the title of Dean for Undergraduate Medical and Curricular Affairs of the School of Medicine. Prior to Dr. Koestler’s 2023 promotion, she held the title of Senior Associate Dean for Medical Education at NYMC for 10 years.
New York Medical College is a Health Sciences Institution that includes a School of Medicine, a School of Health Sciences and Practice, and a School for Biomedical Sciences. In May 2011, New York Medical College joined the Touro University System, creating one of the United States’ largest biomedical higher education consortiums under one institutional banner. Approximately 19,000 students are currently enrolled in its various schools and divisions. Touro has 35 campuses and locations in New York, California, Nevada, Illinois, Berlin, Jerusalem, and Moscow. NYMC has 12 major clinical affiliate sites and approximately 840 total medical students. During Dr. Koestler’s time at NYMC she has been praised for her value add as an LCME site visitor and her success in securing clinical affiliates as well as leading successful matchdays. As Senior Associate Dean for Medical Education, Dr. Koestler lead and managed the offices of Medical Education, Data Analytics, Education Technology, and the Clinical Skills and Simulation Center, served as Faculty Accreditation Lead for institutional accreditation, and oversaw and provided leadership to support all aspects of the MD Program including the curriculum, clinical skills training, medical student assessment, education. technology, budget, and MD Program evaluation and continuous quality improvement.
Dr. Jennifer Koestler earned a combined B.S./M.D. at Union College, a Doctor of Medicine from The Albany Medical College, and completed her internship & residency in combined Internal Medicine and Pediatrics at The Mount Sinai Medical Center. Dr. Koestler has also participated in several post-graduate professional training courses at Harvard and AAMC.

Geisinger Commonwealth School of Medicine was established through the grassroots efforts of visionary individuals who foresaw what a community-based medical school would bring to the region and worked to make it a reality. The Commonwealth Medical College (TCMC) was incorporated in 2008 and welcomed its first class of Doctor of Medicine (MD) degree students and Master of Biomedical Sciences (MBS) degree students in August 2009. TCMC integrated with Geisinger Health on January 1, 2017, and became Geisinger Commonwealth School of Medicine (GCSOM).
