After an extensive national search, Bon Secours Mercy Health has selected Mr. Mike Lutes to lead all Richmond market operations, helping to advance a mission-focused culture of innovation and excellence, while bringing best practices for efficiency and effective, compassionate care delivery across the market.

Bon Secours Mercy Health is an integrated health system with 50 hospitals, thousands of providers, over 1,200 points of care, and 60,000 associates across 7 states and two countries, Bon Secours Mercy Health is one of the largest and strongest Catholic healthcare systems. The Richmond market is the flagship market for BSMH with net revenue of $2 billion, consisting of seven hospitals, 1,364 licensed beds, eleven emergency departments, a comprehensive stroke center, Level III NICU, and Level III Trauma Program.

Mr. Mike Lutes brings more than 20 years of healthcare experience to his new role. He joins Bon Secours from Atrium Health, an integrated nonprofit health system based in Charlotte, North Carolina with more than 70,000 employees, 40 hospitals, and 1,400 care locations. He held a variety of leadership roles at the system, most recently serving as Senior Vice President and Market President for their south market with oversight of five hospitals. In his years, Mike has created award-winning levels of patient and employee satisfaction as well as nationally recognized quality and outstanding financial results.

Mike earned his Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration and Healthcare Management from Appalachian State University and a Master of Health Administration degree from the Medical University of South Carolina.

After an extensive national search, Essentia Health selected Mr. Rohit Tandon as the Chief Information Security Officer, to serve as the process owner of all assurance activities related to the availability, integrity, and confidentiality of customer, business partner, employee, and business information in compliance with the organization's information security policies. Rohit is responsible for establishing, advancing and maintaining a corporate-wide information security management program to ensure that information assets are adequately protected.

Mr. Tandon brings over 20 years of cybersecurity experience to Essentia; he started his career at Mayo Clinic Rochester and has most recently served as the State Chief Information Security Officer for the State of Minnesota, Department of IT. Rohit has established cybersecurity programs and roadmaps from defining vision to executing in a matrix of highly regulated environments. He has a proven track record of creating a channel between business units and technology functions to raise the overall cybersecurity posture of complex organizations. Rohit received a Bachelor of Science in Computer Science from Winona State University and an MBA from the University of Minnesota. Rohit is a Certified Information Systems Security Professional (CISSP).

Essentia Health is an integrated health system serving patients in Minnesota, Wisconsin, and North Dakota. Headquartered in Duluth, Minnesota, Essentia Health combines the strengths and talents of 14,000 employees, including more than 2,100 physicians and advanced practitioners. After an extensive national search, Acclaim Multi-Specialty Group selected Ms. Loree Ching as the Vice President of Finance to provide financial direction for all divisions, including financial and operational management & performance, strategic growth, strategic development, financial projections, capital planning, analytics, cash flow/ incentive distributions, integrating savings and improvement initiatives. Loree Ching will be responsible for all financial outcomes of the enterprise – both revenues and expenses.

Ms. Loree Ching brings over 25 years of healthcare finance experience. Her career began in public accounting, preparing income tax returns, and later transitioned to lead finance roles in healthcare organizations, specifically in physician groups. Loree’s experience includes physician group CFO roles in two large hospital systems in Texas and, most recently, in Oklahoma. Loree has extensive experience in overseeing physician financial statements, operational budgets, physician contracting, and physician compensation. Loree was born and raised in Texas. She received her Bachelor of Business Administration degree in Accounting from Texas A&M University and her CPA license shortly after graduation.

Healthcare executives increasingly want to identify and develop diverse leaders who can contribute different perspectives on issues and help accelerate industry innovation and transformation.
In 2019, NCHF launched the Diverse Healthcare Leaders Mentorship Program to help cultivate a diverse pipeline of leaders in healthcare. In the inaugural class, eight women and men
(pictured right) from underrepresented communities and who are already employed in healthcare were paired with executive leader mentors from health systems, hospitals and NCHA in a 12 month program. Now in its 3rd year, the program has grown significantly and is generating tremendous interest.

As North Carolina demographics continue to shift, hospitals and health systems are increasingly focused on becoming more reflective of the patients and communities they serve.

Having a diverse workplace is one of the greatest assets of any organization to improving employee morale and promoting retention – both of which are critical to combatting growing healthcare workforce shortages.

Encouraging diversity in the workplace facilitates different perspectives that generate an abundance of distinct ideas and accelerates innovation for complex problems.

NCHA is committed to building a diverse pipeline of underrepresented men and women into healthcare leaders that will shape and transform health in NC. In 2019, we launched the Diverse Healthcare Leaders Mentorship Program to connect leaders who are willing to share their knowledge and experience to high-achieving women and men from underrepresented communities.

Underrepresented professionals will apply to participate in NCHA-facilitated events that offer inspiring educational opportunities, networking with industry leaders, and one-on-one coaching with a mentor who will serve as a professional ally in career development and advancement.
